Ontario director Andrew Cividino won VIFF’s only award for the short film category as most promising director of a Canadian short film, for his short We Ate the Children Last. “If I knew this was coming, I would have ironed my jacket,” he told the Vogue Theatre crowd. The jury selected this film “for its creation of an apocalyptic, yet fully believable world.”

Our first in a series of four videos for the “Grow the Wines You Love” campaign is launching today on the Grape Growers of Ontario website. We had a blast shooting with Debra Marshall of Robert Thomas Estate Vineyards in Cherry Valley, Prince Edward County last month. Debra is a fourth generation grape grower, pinot noir lover and impeccable host, sending us home with fresh raspberry pies and tomato plants for the garden. Stay tuned for the release of three more videos over the coming months as we capture the grape growing process from season to season.

Post-production has wrapped on our most recent short film We Ate The Children Last and our first batch of festival submissions is officially in the mail. Producing this film has been a vital experience for Film Forge. From optioning the original short story written by Booker-prize winning author Yann Martel to conquering an ambitious shooting schedule and assembling score, special effects, graphics, sound design and original footage into a finished product. We can’t say it often enough: thank you to all of the cast and crew who were instrumental in bringing this dystopic world to life.

This summer is turning out to be the busiest yet for Film Forge. After wrapping production for our short film We Ate The Children Last, we’re gearing up for two exciting new projects. The first, a series of web seminars for the Law Society of Upper Canada, will take shape in over twenty days of production shot in and around the historic Osgoode Hall in downtown Toronto. The second project is a series of 16 videos for the Egg Farmers of Ontario, produced in collaboration with Agency 59. We’ll be traveling to farms across Ontario where we’ll get to know the families that put eggs on our tables.

We Ate The Children Last and director Andrew Cividino were covered today in the Dundas Star News by Senior Editor Debra Downey. Andrew emphasized the great lengths our dedicated cast and crew went to create the dystopic world at the heart of the film: “We needed to shoot a riot scene, so what better place than to go to the G20 summit with a few actors?” said Cividino, explaining police officers were curious but cooperative once the group identified themselves as film-makers.” Here is the full article.

We’re home from Quebec after spending the past week at the Montreal World Film Festival for the world premiere of Fading Fast, a short film directed by novelist Brad Smith and produced by the Film Forge team. Montreal is one of our favourite cities: great food, beautiful, lush parks and a relaxed atmosphere that’s easy to crave when we’re busy at work in Toronto. Ultimately we just want audiences to see our films, so this approach is very much appreciated. Thank you to the folks at MWFF for welcoming us so warmly to your city.
Air Quality Health Index PSA

We spent the morning at Toronto Life Square with CTV’s Frank Ferragine, AKA Frankie Flowers, who joined us to promote Environment Canada’s Air Quality Health Index. Our clients wanted to convey the science behind this tool, which is designed to help the general public make informed choices about when to take part in outdoor activities, but needed to deliver the message in a simple, approachable way. Frankie was the perfect man for the job. You can check out the Air Quality Health Index PSA on our website, and visit Frankie’s Site for some gardening tips.
